Objectives

The main motive behind our DiscoverEU project application was to provide young people with fewer opportunities, especially those facing various social, economic and geographical barriers, with the opportunity to participate in a life-changing experience. Over the years of work in our Kreaktiva association, we have recognized the need of young people and their parents for activities that would go beyond local frameworks and provide them with international experience. While in previous projects we have successfully integrated some of them into our local activities, this project allowed us to expand our activities and adapt to the specific needs of the participants through smaller groups and targeted planning. The focus of the project was on inclusivity, which means that from the very beginning, we included the participants in all phases of preparation and implementation, from designing the itinerary to evaluating competences. The project “Getting to know Europe, I get to know myself! 2.0.” was designed to provide young people with fewer opportunities with the experience of traveling by train through Europe, which is not only an adventure but also an educational opportunity for personal growth. Special emphasis was placed on their empowerment, through activities designed to foster their independence, self-confidence and the development of skills needed for everyday life. During the project, participants had the opportunity to develop multicultural competences by interacting with local communities, learning about different cultures and exchanging experiences with peers from other countries. Activities such as a “Scavenger Hunt” in Sighișoara and historical role-play activities in Istanbul were designed to stimulate their creativity, critical thinking and teamwork. One of the key aspects of this project was sustainability. Using trains as the main means of transport, promoting eco-friendly practices such as the use of reusable bottles and collaborating with local communities on environmental projects in Bulgaria, encouraged participants to think about their own impact on the environment. Furthermore, the project enabled participants to acquire concrete digital skills through tasks such as photography, video editing and social media posting. This also served as a tool for their integration into the modern digital world, while at the same time teaching them the importance of presenting their own stories. The aim of the project was to create an inclusive environment where every participant can participate equally, despite the challenges they face. We wanted to show that boundaries are often just an illusion and that through support, cooperation and adaptation, everyone can reach new heights. With this project, we not only fulfilled the goals such as developing competencies and cultural understanding, but we also provided the participants with a space to become messengers of change in their community, empowering them to recognize and use their abilities in the future.
