By implementing this project, we aimed to achieve several key objectives focused on upskilling, networking, and fostering innovation among cultural heritage managers. Our primary goal was to support the development of sustainable, socially inclusive, and green management practices for fortified heritage sites. Specifically, we seeked to create new programs and activities designed to increase the participation and engagement of adult visitors, particularly seniors. Through these efforts, we aimed to promote the inclusion of elderly citizens, empowering them to actively participate in cultural heritage activities while raising their awareness of the important connections between cultural heritage and sustainability. Our main goal was to transform fortified heritage sites into dynamic learning spaces for local communities. We aimed to raise environmental awareness and encourage civic participation, especially among elderly visitors, making these sites centers of lifelong learning and sustainable development. This project was about more than just improving the skills of heritage managers—it was about creating real, lasting change in how communities connect with and benefit from their cultural heritage.
We applied for this project because it aligned with our shared goals in cultural and heritage management, focusing on the sustainable development of fortified sites and creating engaging programs for adult visitors, especially elderly citizens. By developing tailored programs for seniors, the project aimed to create meaningful opportunities for their participation in cultural and educational activities. These objectives supported our commitment to inclusive, sustainable, and innovative heritage site management. The project addressed the need to enhance sustainability knowledge and green skills and equipping staff to implement environmentally responsible programs. It also fostered community involvement and lifelong learning for elderly visitors through meaningful activities. By exchanging best practices, the project enhanced inclusivity, impact, and sustainability, transforming heritage sites like the Šibenik fortifications, Rasnov Fortress, and Kaunas fortifications into community learning hubs that promote cultural exchange, environmental awareness, and social engagement. The project also met partner institutions' needs of empowering staff with the skills to deliver sustainable and inclusive programs.
