The specific aim of our project was to develop, provide access to and promote a methodology for using educational robotics in compensatory education. We aimed at developing a collection of best practices and methodological guidelines and making them available in three languages. The aim of the collection of teaching materials was to help teachers to integrate robotics-based activities supporting differentiation and compensation for disadvantage into the school curriculum in the form of micro-projects prepared for classroom use and adapted to the curricula of the partner countries. We also wanted to promote the sharing of good practices and professional networking between the Hungarian and Spanish teachers involved in the project. Our aim was to increase the professional capacity of the teachers, to develop their European identity and to give a European dimension to their professional activities. By disseminating good practices and sharing knowledge, we wanted to promote the development and school integration of children with social or learning disadvantages, or who are refugees.
Our project was motivated by the goal of bringing the many educational robotics solutions available in the Abacusan and Interobotics professional toolkits to the service of compensating for disadvantages of primary school students. In our previous national and international projects, including Erasmus+, and in our teaching practice, we have found that pupils with learning or integration difficulties are re-energised and motivated when using educational robotics. In the partner school network and in the wider educational environment of the two partner organisations, there are a large number of children who, due to their learning difficulties, socio-cultural or migrant background, need to catch up and face barriers to integration into the school community. For the teachers who teach them, our project aimed to provide methodological support and development opportunities, as well as a collection of teaching materials to support disadvantage compensation pedagogy using educational robots.
