The overall goal of Project Girlpower was to motivate girls aged 10-14 in the above-mentioned six partner countries to recognize the potential within them and become valued, respected members of society. The project sought to present as examples women who have made a name for themselves through extraordinary achievements and can serve as role models for the next generation. The aim was to demonstrate that the stories of these women are also significant in a regional context, as the Central European countries share a common historical background. Presenting various career path models and drawing attention to the possibility and importance of free choice were considered essential. The project was intended to supplement school education with cultural-historical insights, spark girls' interest in history, and help them with career choices.
Project Girlpower aimed to address a need identified in the partner countries: very few women are mentioned in history books and educational materials, even though the Central European region can boast outstanding women such as Marie Curie, Ilona Zrínyi, or Milada Horáková. The goal was to present role models to girls aged 10-14 from various fields – history, science, culture, sports – who could serve as inspiration for their career choices and strengthening their self-esteem. Girls today still have few adequate role models, while statistics show that they choose STEM fields at lower rates, even though there are great opportunities in this area. Gender stereotypes remain present in society – in many places, people believe that a woman must choose between family and career. The project aimed to break down these stereotypes by demonstrating that women are capable of exceptional achievements in all fields. The project was developed with partners from six Central European countries (Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia).
