The main goals of the program were to develop the reading comprehension competence of the students of the participating institutions, to get to know contemporary works of fiction that, when read and processed, not only make them more motivated to read, but also expand their worldview and knowledge of reality through the works, cooperation with partners and mobilities, and develop their historical perspective and become more objective. Our goal during the implementation of the project was also that students with different socio-cultural backgrounds would become more accepting, open-minded and tolerant through online contact and joint work at project meetings. Our goal was also that the methodological culture and toolkit of the participating teachers would develop through the exchange of teaching experiences and the sharing of methodological solutions, thereby making institutional work more efficient in both institutions of the partnership.
We have experienced a deterioration in general reading comprehension and writing skills among students in both institutions applying for partnership cooperation. This local, own experience was also supported by the results of national measurement results in recent years. In addition, a decrease in the desire to read was also experienced in both institutions, as confirmed by our questionnaire that assessed reading habits and was filled out by our students. With our project, we focused on increasing the desire to read, developing our students' reading comprehension competence through reading contemporary works of fiction, and at the same time developing the methodological tools of our teachers related to the development of reading comprehension.
