We wanted to explore what types of models are being used for inclusive adult education and self-advocacy outside of the local and Irish context. Our goal was to achieve the knowledge and experience of how these models are applied in both a practical and inspirational way. Staff and learners wanted to learn directly through the gift of travel and the direct exchange of ideas, at the end of which, we could bring this learning back with us and share it with our organisation, its staff and learners.
Horizons (formerly Cope Foundation) supports over 2,800 people in 70 locations in Cork City and County. Our adult learners with intellectual disabilities and/or autism are also supported through arts education. These bi-annual classes underpin our core values of creative learning in a person-centred, flexible way in line with article 24) of UNCRPD (equal access for people with disabilities to education) and article 30) of UNCRPD (equal access for people with disabilities to arts and culture.
