The primary objective of the project was to develop and deliver a comprehensive handbook or a dedicated website containing information about the Green Flag initiative as well as other ongoing environmental projects. This platform was intended to serve as a valuable educational resource that would reflect the environmental efforts and goals of the schools involved. Importantly, the content was to be shaped by the students themselves—based on their ideas, insights, and understanding of the environmental topics addressed. By encouraging student-led contributions and implementation, the project aimed to foster ownership, engagement, and deeper learning, while also promoting collaboration, creativity, and responsibility in addressing real-world environmental challenges.
We applied for this project with the aim of enhancing environmental awareness and promoting sustainable thinking among students and staff in both schools. Environmental education is a growing necessity, and we identified a need to make environmental issues more visible and better integrated into everyday school life. By participating in this project, we hoped to create more opportunities for students to engage actively with environmental topics through hands-on learning, discussion, and collaboration. Additionally, we saw great value in building a partnership between IES Tegueste and FÁ, as FÁ has a long-standing commitment to environmental work and education, with over 20 years of experience. This project provided an excellent opportunity for IES Tegueste to learn from FÁ’s experience, approaches, and best practices. Sharing knowledge, tools, and methods across our schools would not only strengthen our own environmental initiatives, but also contribute to the development of a broader culture of sustainability. In short, this project was a chance to address the shared need for stronger environmental education, while also fostering international collaboration and professional growth for both students and teachers.
