Objectives

By implementing this project, we aimed to strengthen climate awareness and active engagement among young people, particularly those with fewer opportunities, by using the GEA methodology and enhancing the skills of youth workers. The goal was to bridge the gap between these young people and climate action by encouraging their participation in local, sustainable initiatives that generate positive social, environmental, and economic impact. More specifically, we wanted to engage youth who are often excluded from traditional participation spaces, raising their awareness of climate change and motivating them to take initiative. At the same time, we sought to equip youth workers, youth leaders, and climate activists with innovative street education methods and practical tools to better connect with and mobilize young people. Another key objective was to expand the reach and impact of the GEA methodology by sharing it across wider networks of youth workers and climate activists in Europe, fostering collaboration and creating a community of practice around climate education.

Background

We applied for this project to address the growing need to empower young people to actively engage in climate action, while supporting youth workers with effective tools and methods. Although many young people are aware of climate change, they often lack practical knowledge on how to act and access local sustainable initiatives. At the same time, youth organisations face difficulties in reaching young people with fewer opportunities, especially those outside formal education systems. The project responds to these needs by developing innovative street-based and non-formal education methods that bring learning directly to young people in their everyday environments. It also addresses the need for capacity building among youth workers, youth leaders, and climate activists, equipping them with skills to raise awareness and foster participation. Additionally, the project tackles the lack of connection between youth and local ecological initiatives, promoting accessible, encouraging sustainable lifestyles and active citizenship.
