Objectives

We aimed to address the mistrust of citizens in EU institutions while improving the participation of adult learners in non-formal educational activities, supporting multilingualism, and developing organizational capacity and digital skills. The results we expected to achieve by implementing the project were as follows: - Teachers and learners will gain knowledge about the European Union. - Improving the digital skills of teachers to collaboratively create and manage innovative digital content for an educational mobile app with their students. - Capacity building and the transfer of knowledge and experience between transnational partners. - An action plan for non-formal educational projects that utilize social and digital skills to foster multilingual active citizenship with a strong European identity while practicing languages. - Creating a mobile application to demystify Europe, its institutions, and initiatives for citizens. - Assisting, educating, and training our adult learners to use digital tools more widely.

Background

We applied for this project to address the pressing challenges faced by adult learners in Luxembourg, particularly those stemming from the Covid-19 crisis, which resulted in a decline in training participation for the first time since 1993. Our organization identified key barriers to attendance: a lack of time for studying, busy professional schedules, and limited practice opportunities outside the classroom, all of which over 65% of learners reported. Given Luxembourg's unique demographic, with over 50% of its population being non-national citizens & significant language barriers, many residents feel excluded from active citizenship and European engagement. This project aimed to strengthen European identity and civic engagement among at least 20 teachers & 400 adult learners through enhanced language & soft skills training, alongside social & digital educational activities. By increasing digital skills, we aimed to create a more inclusive learning environment for those hesitant to embrace technology, both teachers & adult learners. Our goal was to empower our teachers & learners, fostering active participation & enhancing understanding of EU institutions, thereby contributing to a more cohesive & engaged society in Luxembourg.
