Objectives

Project Teaching English to Elderly (TETE) focused on teaching and learning English language to elderly and adults in non formal way . Project aimed to investigate the best methods aplied in teaching English to elderly and practical try-out of two different methods - Language Cafe and Language Circles . Educators received practical Recommendations, materials and e- Booklet with non formal methods to be used in trainings. 40 elderly from Latvia and Lithuania improved English skills.

Background

English language skills prevent elderly from active participation in European level activities together with seniors from other EU countries. Our trainers lack information and methods how to teach elderly the most effective way. We wanted to explore how English is taught in other EU countries, especially in our neighbouring countries, like Lithuania. In project TETE we wanted to test out some of non-formal methods which suit adult learners, and especially elderly.
