Objectives

Main objective was to raise awareness of the ecological, cultural and social value of ancient trees among professionals and the wider public, contributing to better long-term protection and management of this important natural heritage.

Background

Latvia is rich in ancient and veteran trees that play an important role in biodiversity, cultural heritage and the national landscape. However, before this project, knowledge about veteran trees significance and practical guidance on how to care for and manage these trees were limited and not widely accessible. The project was developed to respond to the need for increased awareness, better skills and shared approaches among professionals and organisations working with trees and green environments. By applying for this project, the partners aimed to bring proven European knowledge on veteran tree management to Latvia, support professionals in their daily work and raise awareness of the value of ancient trees among a wider audience, creating a strong basis for long-term conservation and sustainable management.
