Background

STEAM education is on the rise, but within inclusive education, there is little or no guidance on how to bring this education closer to students with autism. As organizations dedicated to supporting children with autism and promoting inclusive education, we recognized the urgent need to create customized strategies and resources that meet the unique learning needs of students with autism. Parents are key in the education of children with autism. Therefore, we focused our activities on strengthening families and educators, so that they are prepared to transfer knowledge to students with autism in the field of STEAM education. This education improves the development of work skills, which is also lacking for students with autism. Therefore, in addition to educating parents and educators on the one hand, on the other hand, with this education we influence the improvement of the employment of children with autism, and in the future, adults with autism. Also, by developing STEAM education strategies, we promoted equal accessibility. This is the first STEAM project for our organisations, and it enabled the improvement of our capacities and at the same time the expansion of the cooperation network for further collaborations.
