The primary goal of this project was to promote cross-cultural understanding and actively combat stereotypes through the innovative use of board games as an educational and engagement tool. Recognizing that young people often encounter cultural narratives primarily through media—where stereotypes and biases can be pervasive—this project sought to provide an alternative, positive, and interactive platform for cultural learning and empathy-building. Key Objectives of the Project: 1)Combat Stereotypes and Biases: We aimed to tackle and deconstruct stereotypes associated with specific countries. By doing so, the project created space for open discussion, understanding, and a reimagined perspective of different cultures. 2)Enhance Cultural Awareness and Empathy: By fostering intercultural exchange, we focused on improving participants' awareness of cultural diversity and promoting respect for cultural differences. This project offered an immersive experience for participants to engage in meaningful cultural exchange, broadening their worldview. 3)Empower Participants as Cultural Ambassadors: We wanted participants to become active representatives of their cultures, providing them with a platform to portray their countries accurately and authentically. Through this, participants learned how to communicate their cultural values positively and share their unique perspectives. 4)Develop Innovative Learning Tools for Intercultural Education: The creation of culturally-themed board games allowed participants to engage with cultural content dynamically. These games serve as powerful educational tools that can be used by youth workers to introduce intercultural education in their communities. 5)Encourage Green and Sustainable Practices: The project included a focus on sustainability, encouraging participants to adopt eco-friendly practices both within the project and in their future work in youth development. Participants learned how to integrate these practices, enhancing their commitment to environmentally conscious action. 6)Provide Knowledge of Board Game Design and Digital Skills: By teaching participants the basics of board game mechanics and digital design, we aimed to equip them with skills that would support their personal and professional growth. They gained knowledge on utilizing tools like Canva for visual design and video editing software for promotional materials, which are valuable in multiple areas. 7)Promote the Erasmus+ Program and Youthpass: By integrating the Erasmus+ framework and emphasizing Youthpass certification, the project encouraged self-reflection and ongoing learning. Participants developed a deeper understanding of Erasmus+ and how it can be a pathway to future growth and youth work initiatives. 8)Encourage a Sense of Community and Active Citizenship: We sought to create a close-knit community among participants from various backgrounds, where shared experiences strengthened the sense of unity and active global citizenship. This community atmosphere reinforced participants’ understanding of diversity and motivated them to advocate for cultural inclusion. 9)Promote Entrepreneurship and Youth Involvement: By introducing the concept of game development and project-based learning, participants were encouraged to think entrepreneurially and envision their roles as proactive, globally aware citizens. This entrepreneurial spirit, combined with the cultural themes explored, inspired participants to pursue initiatives promoting diversity in their own communities. Ultimate Goal: Through this project, we aimed to empower participants as advocates for cultural diversity, empathy, and inclusion. By creating board games that reflect positive cultural narratives, we offered an engaging and interactive method for participants to learn about and celebrate diversity, ultimately contributing to a world that values mutual respect and understanding across cultural lines.
