We had the following objectives for this project: SO1: Develop a professional and attractive toolkit and training programme for people with disabilities, focused on testing the accessibility of the built environment, which is available online to a wide audience. SO2: Training people with disabilities in both countries using the toolkit under development, through the use of focus groups. SO3: Gain experience with Erasmus+ partnership projects for new organisations.
With this project, we wanted to compare the existing methodology and experience of experts in testing the accessibility of the built environment, as applied at Dito and Voorall, and to further develop it by creating a toolkit and associated training course that is not yet available. This would be accessible online to everyone, but especially to people with disabilities who experience accessibility barriers when visiting shops, restaurants and other buildings in public spaces. All of this should help people with disabilities to participate independently in activities in their immediate environment, just like everyone else, and thus enable them to continue living independently at home for longer. The development of the toolkit and training programme will equip them with the skills they need to become active citizens and to participate in and contribute to society.
