Objectives

Based on these needs, we set out clear objectives for the project that would help us respond to the challenges while creating lasting change. So with this project, we wanted to promote VET as an attractive, meaningful, and future-proof path. Our first goal was to empower students to act as ambassadors, using digital storytelling to share their real experiences and skills. We also aimed to build stronger connections—between students, teachers, and professionals, across countries and generations—so that VET is seen in a wider, more positive light. Another key goal was to create a sustainable international community, where ideas and practices can be shared, making VET more visible and connected to European values. In the end, the project was about finding new ways to address falling enrolments by reshaping the story of VET. By putting authentic student voices at the center, and linking them to issues of sustainability and inclusion, we hoped to show that VET is not a second choice but a strong, modern route to both personal growth and professional success.

Background

We applied for this project because VET faces real challenges. Even though it gives young people practical skills and clear career paths, it still suffers from a poor image. University education is often seen as the “better” choice, and this pushes students away from VET, even when it might suit them better. Families, teachers, and employers also hold onto these outdated views. As a result, enrolments are declining and many young people miss out on the opportunities VET can offer. At the same time, our schools saw another gap: sustainability. Young people care about it deeply, but it is not always built into VET programs in a way that feels relevant. The BLU project was created to respond to both of these needs. By showing authentic student experiences and success stories, it helps VET gain visibility, pride, and credibility. By linking this to sustainability, it ensures that VET is not only attractive but also future-focused and meaningful for the next generation.
