The 'Eco Sapiens' project emerged from the discussions and concerns voiced at the Sustain-Mobility EPLM conference at Schloss Hohenkammer. Observing the diverse concerns expressed by youth, policy makers, youth workers, and practitioners regarding sustainability in learning mobilities and sustainability in general, we decided to take concrete actions to address these issues. Following the conference, youth workers convened in the Netherlands to build upon our discussions and further our collaboration. By joining forces, we aimed to develop a sustainable framework for learning mobility that would reflect our shared concerns and goals. Our hope was that this project would inspire a new generation to adopt sustainable practices and lead the way in creating a brighter, more sustainable future for all. Our project aimed to train young people and youth workers from across the EU on sustainability, equipping them with the necessary tools to set up their own sustainable and inclusive initiatives. We planned to achieve this through two training sessions and a final conference, all centered on practical experience where participants would help organize a sustainable final conference step by step. We sought to encourage participating countries to travel completely green, incorporating 'green missions' to be completed during their journeys. Our goal was to involve a total of 32 participants from the EU in this project. The first training took place in Willa Austryjok in Poland, while the second training was held in Heuvelrijk Berg en Dal in Groesbeek, Netherlands. During the second training, study visits to sustainable initiatives were organized, with a focus on preparing for the final conference. The final conference, organized by the participants, was held at Landgoed Zonheuvel on July 7th. This conference aimed to inspire young people to take action in the field of sustainability. We attracted 500 visitors inspite of rainy day and financed the conference by raising local funds & sponsors. Participants were trained in fundraising, conference organization, application writing, and identifying local funding opportunities in their own countries. Our project did not conclude with the final conference. Follow-up actions included forming the European Youth Environment Council and organizing follow-up conferences in partner countries. We believed that our project would not only empower young people to become sustainability leaders but also foster a sense of European collaboration and cooperation. Objectives of the Eco Sapiens Project: were 1. Promote Environmental Awareness and Sustainability: - Foster environmental awareness and sustainable practices among young learners who participate in learning mobilities. 2. Develop a Sustainable Framework for Learning Mobilities: - Create a framework that reflects shared concerns and goals related to sustainability in learning mobilities. 3. Encourage Sustainable Practices: - Inspire young learners to adopt sustainable practices in both their personal and professional lives, cultivating a more sustainable future. 4. Inspire Eco-Conscious Individuals: - Inspire a new generation of eco-conscious individuals to take action and lead in the field of sustainability. We are pleased to report that we achieved our objectives and main aim. The participants successfully organized and conducted the final conference, demonstrating their understanding and application of sustainable practices. The project culminated in the final conference, which was filmed by one of the participants.
