Objectives

Stories Act is a project to equip youth workers with storytelling tools to work with the LGBTQIA+/Queer community, aiming to increase the quality of youth work and contribute to democratization. Through storytelling methodologies Stories Act aimed to be a playground to give shape to empowering narratives. Through the project and its different phases, we created spaces and experiences to express and acknowledge stories that need to be told and heard: stories that celebrate diversity, that acknowledge humanity as a common trait, that empower to face obstacles and generate accountability, that inspire to choose empathy, that guide us into overcoming pain, and foster inclusion and intersectionality. We worked with traditional stories, personal stories and with oral, visual and audio storytelling as means of expression. We promoted and advocated for storytelling and stories as significant tools to support the personal development of LGBTQIA+/Queer young people, who continue to be a marginalized community in society, and overall increase the quality of LGBTQIA+/Queer education and youth work. NEEDS CONNECTED TO YOUTH WORK (in summary, the main needs we addressed are:) - Learn competencies on how to work with LGBT+/Queer youth in a way that creates empowerment for them - Learn how to make competent interventions in sensitive situations involving LGBT+/Queer youth - Having concrete skills to apply to bring youth out of victimization or blame, and towards active inclusion and personal accountability - Learn to create the context for difficult dialogues to happen through storytelling tools - Learn how to address exclusion and discrimination, and how to create inclusion through giving voice to vulnerable groups, such as LGBT+ youth - Learn how to create safer, braver and inclusive spaces for LGBT+ youth in their youth work, highlighting the importance of intersectionality and working from intersectional perspectives and approaches in daily and non-daily youth work; OBJECTIVES OF OUR PROJECT (we have achieved): - increased the life-long competencies and youth work professional development of participants in each project phase; - involved directly 30 youth workers in each phase who are LGBT+/Queer or allies to the community; - improved the quality of youth work of organizations working or starting to work with LGBTQIA+/Queer youth in their field; - organized a series of 16 local activities in the participating countries during the implementation phase; - created and disseminated a series of videos about the project and the topics we worked on, during the Implementation phase; Those videos include stories and experiences from the project related to LGBT+/Queer youth work, testimonials and reflections from participants and facilitating team; - promoted Erasmus+ and its beneficial role for inclusivity, promoting intersectionality in youth work and education and the active participation of marginalized youth;
