Objectives

The main objective of the project was to empower Deaf youth workers with the knowledge, skills, and educational tools needed to teach Deaf culture, heritage, and diversity to Deaf young people. The project aimed to increase awareness of Deaf identity, sign languages, inclusion, and cultural diversity across Europe. Another objective was to develop accessible educational materials, including a curriculum, workshop materials, and educational videos. These materials can be used by youth organisations, trainers, and Deaf community organisations as teaching tools and as resources to spread knowledge in an accessible way. Through research, training, and testing activities, the project aimed to identify the needs of Deaf youth and ensure that the developed materials reflected the experiences and expectations of the Deaf community. The project also supported Erasmus+ priorities related to inclusion, accessibility, participation, and intercultural dialogue.

Background

The project was developed in response to the lack of accessible educational materials and structured training on Deaf culture, heritage, and diversity for Deaf youth workers and Deaf young people across Europe. Many Deaf young people have limited opportunities to learn about Deaf history, sign languages, identity, and diversity in accessible formats. Youth workers also often lack practical tools and methods to address these topics in their daily work. The project addressed the need for inclusive, culturally relevant, and accessible educational resources in national sign languages and digital formats. Through surveys and advisory boards, the partnership identified educational gaps and priority topics related to Deaf Studies. Based on these needs, the project created inclusive and engaging teaching materials.
