By implementing the DigiMentor project, we aimed to bridge the gap in digital mentorship for guidance staff working with migrant women. The goal was to ensure that mentors, social workers, and educators could provide effective, accessible, and culturally sensitive support in an increasingly digital world. One key achievement was the creation of an E-Learning Platform, equipping guidance staff with practical digital mentorship skills to enhance their interactions with migrant women. Additionally, we wanted to establish a Peer-Learning Portal, enabling mentors to share experiences, collaborate, and continuously improve their mentorship practices based on real-world challenges. Beyond training individuals, the project sought to build institutional capacity, ensuring that organizations working with migrant women could integrate digital mentorship practices sustainably. Through this initiative, we aimed to improve communication accessibility, empower migrant women with better guidance services, and ultimately promote gender equality by reducing disparities in mentorship access.
We applied for the DigiMentor project because we identified a critical gap in digital mentorship skills within our organizations, Danaker, and MentorUng, both of which provide mentorship and guidance to migrant women. Our teams observed that many guidance staff—mentors, social workers, and educators—struggled with digital mentorship, lacking the skills to effectively engage with migrant women in an increasingly digital world. At the same time, migrant women were struggling to receive effective mentorship due to several challenges, including language barriers, cultural differences, limited access to digital tools, and mentors’ lack of online engagement skills. Many guidance staff relied on traditional, in-person methods, which were not always accessible to migrant women living in different regions or juggling work and family responsibilities. To address these challenges, we applied for DigiMentor to: - Equip our organizations' mentors with digital mentorship skills to better support migrant women. - Bridge the gap between mentors and mentees by integrating inclusive, culturally sensitive digital mentorship practices. - Ensure migrant women receive high-quality guidance, overcoming barriers to mentorship access.
