The main goal of our project was to address the multifaceted challenges faced by migrant communities, particularly in the context of youth work. We aimed at providing a platform for NGOs representatives, youth workers, and educators to collaborate, learn, and innovate. Recognizing the international character of migration and the limits of individual member states and organizations in addressing these difficulties on their own, the project attempted to use the collective knowledge of a consortium of migrant-focused and migrant-led NGOs, as well as integration service providers. The project Acting Across Boarders aimed to strengthen these organizations' ability to reach out to new migrant groups, provide needed support, and promote a sense of solidarity throughout communities, by focusing on training the staff and members of the organizations. We aimed to build a long-term foundation for intercultural communication, break down language obstacles, and promote a safe and inclusive environment for both locals and recently arriving migrants. By doing so, we hoped to combat rising anti-immigrant sentiment, nationalism, and xenophobia while also fostering migrant community integration and well-being. To achieve the aims, we set the following Specific Objectives (S.O.s): S.O.1 To equip participants with participatory storytelling methodologies, a strength-based approach that empowers individuals to share and reflect on their experiences. Additionally, we sought to introduce non-verbal methodologies such as Improv Theater and Drama, which are particularly effective in overcoming language barriers when working with newly arrived migrants. S.O.2 To deepen the knowledge and skills of youth workers in areas such as Sensitivity to diversity, intercultural communication, intercultural education, and Non-Formal Education. This included both verbal and non-verbal approaches, ensuring that youth workers are better prepared to engage with and support migrant communities. S.O.3 To provide time and space for participating organizations to develop collaborations, exchange experiences, and share best practices. By fostering these connections, we sought to create a network of support and innovation that would benefit both the participating organizations and the wider community. S.O.4 To develop a toolbox of methodologies that could be easily transferred and adapted to various contexts. This toolbox was designed to require minimal materials and preparation, making it accessible to a wide range of organizations and communities. It was also intended to be promoted through platforms like Salto Inclusion & Diversity and at international conferences, thereby increasing its visibility and impact. S.O.5 To create a lasting impact by developing a dissemination program that would ensure the integration of the project’s findings and outputs into the regular practice of participating organizations, youth centers and NGOs. Participants in the project were expected to act as multipliers, sharing the knowledge and competencies they gained with their respective communities and organizations, thus contributing to ongoing engagement and solidarity between migrant and local communities.
