Objectives

Our objectives addressed following key areas: a) Beneficiaries – For senior women, particularly Ukrainian refugees, we aimed to improve access to long life learning, enhance language and digital skills, and foster active participation in social and civic life in hosting countries. b) Educators – We sought innovative, inclusive, and creative methods, involving educators in tool development to ensure ownership, practical use, and advocacy. We enhanced the digital competences of the trainers. We also aimed to create a simple system for assessing and validating the achievements of both senior women and trainers. c) Organisation – We valued international cooperation as an opportunity to exchange experiences, know-how, and good practices. This strengthened the organisation’s profile, enhanced language skills, and enriched professional competences.

Background

Tales2Share project was created in response to the specific needs of a group that often remains invisible in social life:elderly women, including refugees from war-affected areas. We have been working with migrant women since February 2022. Initially, we provided material support, organising free meals and essential goods. Over time, it became clear that, although these basic needs were met, anxiety, fear, and alienation persisted, particularly among older women, reinforcing their sense of separateness. Our organisation has been working with seniors since 2016, offering a range of services: day-care support, educational, informational, and physical activities. The project addressed the needs of this target group: a) the need for social inclusion and a sense of belonging; b) the reduction of cultural and digital exclusion; c) the improvement of language skills in the new community they found themselves in; d) the need to increase civic activity and social engagement. Our trainers faced challenges: how to suport elderly Ukrainian women in the face of such barriers? how to connect different communities and overcome prejudices? how to improve their digital, language, and social competences in a natural and engaging way?
