The project's main goal was (and remains) to promote reading, raise its standards, and thus educate intelligent, creative, engaged, and responsible citizens who actively participate in democratic life. Other goals: - exchanging experiences within an international project group on promoting reading among adults, - developing scenarios to facilitate reaching identified groups of adults who do not read or read sporadically, - conducting workshops to strengthen educators' skills in effective reading promotion, - developing key competencies, - promoting modern technologies for promoting reading, - conducting a debate on the role of contemporary libraries in modern society, - integrating the library community and improving language skills.
The "Climate For Reading" project complemented and expanded the existing activities of the partner libraries, addressing the important issue of promoting reading among adults in the context of growing secondary illiteracy and the consequent need to develop key competencies. Reading is the foundation of education – there's no doubt about that. Libraries from four European countries participated in the project: Croatia, Norway, Poland, and Slovenia, which jointly explored ways to reach the target group. The project's main goal was (and still is) to promote reading, raise its standards, and thus educate intelligent, creative, engaged, and responsible citizens who actively participate in democratic life.
