Objectives

Within the framework of the project, the key objective was to improve students’ multilingual competences, in particular by developing their knowledge of German as a second foreign language and by applying innovative teaching methods based on robotics. The project focused on using robotics as a tool to support German language learning. This approach stemmed from the belief that effective foreign language acquisition requires not only appropriate content and teaching methods, but above all an engaging form that actively involves students. Lessons built around robotics combined language learning with the development of technical skills and teamwork. As a result, the process of language acquisition was natural and took place through action, play, and practical problem-solving. A crucial element of the project was cooperation with German-speaking schools in Germany and Austria. Students had the opportunity to engage with authentic language and culture, which helped them better understand the practical importance of learning German. Another important goal of the project was to increase the number of students taking Goethe-Institut certification exams.

Background

While implementing the Erasmus+ Accreditation, one of our school’s main objectives is multilingualism. In this area, we have carried out numerous activities: teacher courses and training in Germany, close cooperation with an Austrian university in the field of robotics, inviting experts from Austria to conduct drone programming classes, as well as extracurricular lessons preparing students for the German language certificate. The largest undertaking was year-long German lessons for grades 1–3, co-financed by the Erasmus+ fund and the school’s governing body. During the project, we collaborated with partner schools from Germany and Austria, enabling an exchange of experiences and the practical use of the language. The planned mobilities, combined with the GGRobot competition, also engaged the local community. The project significantly enhanced students’ language skills, strengthened international partnerships, and contributed to the development of our school’s educational cooperation. Its implementation gave our students many more opportunities to use German in practice, and combining it with such an enjoyable field as robotics made these activities have a strong impact on participants’ language competences.
