By implementing the MOSAIC project, our primary ambition was to build a school environment where every student, teacher, and administrator feels like an essential piece of a vibrant whole. We aimed to minimize the sense of social isolation and exclusion frequently experienced by disadvantaged groups, particularly those with special educational needs or refugee backgrounds. Our core objective was to foster deep empathy and cultural awareness among students, transforming perceived "differences" into sources of collective strength while dismantling barriers like peer bullying. For our professional staff, we targeted a high level of competency in inclusive methodologies. Through expert-led workshops in Portugal and digital tool training in Türkiye, we aimed to bring "Differentiated Instruction" into every classroom to meet individual learning needs. At the institutional level, we sought to establish the "Inclusive School, Happy School" atmosphere, ensuring that management views diversity as an asset rather than a challenge. Ultimately, we aimed to create a sustainable network of solidarity and cooperation that would outlast the project’s duration. Our goal was to provide long-term social development support for disadvantaged students
The MOSAIC project was initiated to address the increasing complexities in our schools in Poland, Italy, Türkiye, and Portugal. We applied for this funding because we identified a critical need to modernize our institutional approach to diversity and social isolation. We observed that traditional methods were failing to prevent the exclusion of disadvantaged students, specifically those with special educational needs and refugee backgrounds. Our primary goal was to move beyond theory and transform our schools into Inclusive Schools where differences are viewed as institutional assets. We aimed to address four key needs: the professional need for teachers to master differentiated instruction; the social need for students to develop deep empathy to prevent peer exclusion; the management need to shift toward an inclusive school culture; and the specific social development needs of disadvantaged students for better adaptation. By collaborating transnationally, we created a support system that ensures every learner feels a deep sense of belonging and equity within our communities. This project was our strategic answer to building a more resilient and empathetic educational environment for all stakeholders involved.
