Objectives

Through the implementation of this project, we aimed to improve the level of financial literacy among adults—especially women—by providing them with the tools they need to make informed and sustainable financial decisions. Our goal was to develop an integrated financial education program based on interactive methods and resources tailored to the real needs of the participants. Another key objective was the training of new trainers, so that financial education could be disseminated more broadly within communities and have a lasting impact. By organizing a collaborative program, we also sought to encourage the exchange of best practices and to build a network of individuals equipped to pass on their knowledge. Additionally, we wanted to develop accessible and easy-to-use educational resources to support learning and the practical application of financial concepts in everyday life. Ultimately, through this project, we aimed to boost participants’ confidence and financial autonomy, contributing to the sustainable development of their communities.

Background

We applied for this project after identifying a significant need for financial education among adults—particularly women—in Romania and Belgium, many of whom struggle with managing financial resources and making informed economic decisions. A lack of knowledge in budgeting, saving, investing, and accessing financial opportunities impacts not only personal well-being but also the economic development of their communities. Additionally, we observed that existing educational resources on financial literacy are often too technical for adults without a background in economics or are not adapted to the specific challenges faced by women from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Therefore, we saw the need to develop tailored and interactive materials that support learning through practical, hands-on methods. This project was designed to respond to those needs by creating an integrated financial education program that includes the training of future trainers from among course graduates, as well as the organization of participatory educational sessions aimed at improving financial literacy and providing concrete tools for making sustainable financial decisions.
