Objectives

The primary goal of this project was to enhance the marketing capabilities of libraries in Serbia and Romania, enabling them to better engage with their communities in the digital age. Through comprehensive research on current marketing strategies, we aimed to develop a tailored curriculum that directly addressed the libraries' unique needs. This curriculum focused on key areas such as social media management, copywriting, media planning, and graphic design. The project sought to establish a sustainable model by identifying expert lecturers who could continue supporting library staff beyond the program's duration. Additionally, we aimed to improve librarians' understanding of digital communication channels and the role of digital marketing in libraries through introductory training sessions led by selected experts. By fostering knowledge exchange and collaboration, the project created a network between participating organizations, promoting mutual support and continuous learning. This initiative was designed to enhance the capacity of libraries to adapt, preserve culture, and promote lifelong learning, ultimately benefiting communities in the long term.

Background

Libraries today face the challenge of staying relevant while engaging communities in a digital world. With the rise of digital communication and marketing tools, traditional methods are no longer enough. This project addresses these challenges by positioning libraries as modern, vibrant institutions ready to meet evolving user needs. To achieve this, we identified several key needs. First, modern marketing strategies are essential. Traditional approaches no longer engage audiences effectively, requiring libraries to adopt new skills such as social media management and targeted campaigns to improve visibility. Second, professional development for library staff is vital. Tailored training in areas like copywriting, graphic design, media planning, and social media management is needed to modernize marketing efforts. Third, libraries must reach specific audiences, requiring innovative outreach strategies to stay relevant to diverse groups. Lastly, knowledge sharing and networking are crucial. Strengthening international collaboration promotes the exchange of expertise, best practices, and sustainable partnerships, ensuring ongoing support and growth. We wanted to empower libraries to adapt and thrive in the digital era.
