The idea for the "Mindful Media" project was born during a Youth Exchange in Hungary, where members of our informal group met representatives from Cloud Five and Colony of Creators. During this exchange, they participated in a workshop on fake news, which sparked a lively discussion about the situation in our countries. The group identified a common issue: young people often lack awareness of how pervasive fake news and misinformation are on social media and online platforms. This vulnerability to false information could lead to negative consequences for both individuals and communities. After returning to our communities and disseminating the results of the exchange, we noted significant interest in a project addressing these issues. Consequently, we proposed the idea of a youth exchange focused on misinformation and fake news to Cloud Five and Colony of Creators, who were eager to participate. The Lithuanian partner, VsI "uMunthu", was later introduced through these connections, leading to further studies and surveys on this matter, to analyse specific needs of young people in relation to these challenges. The project successfully met all its original objectives. The goals were achieved through a well-structured program that focused on increasing awareness of fake news, improving participants' ability to critically evaluate news sources, and improving digital media literacy, all done in an international context using particiaptive non-formal education methods. Objective 1: Increase awareness of the prevalence and impact of fake news and misinformation on social media and online platforms among 32 young people aged 18-25 coming from the communities of the four partner organizations by the end of the project. Objective 2: Improve the ability of 32 young people aged 18-25 coming from the communities to critically evaluate news sources and distinguish between reliable and unreliable information by the end of the project. Objective 3: Foster the development of digital media literacy skills among 32 young people aged 18-25 coming from the communities of the partner organizations, enabling them to navigate online platforms responsibly and effectively by the end of the project. The planned activities, such as workshops, group discussions, and practical exercises, were implemented as outlined in the project proposal. The activities enabled participants to develop key competencies in media literacy, critical thinking, and intercultural communication. By the end of the project, participants had acquired the skills necessary to verify the authenticity of news articles and responsibly navigate online platforms.
