Objectives

The Art Green Project was a unique initiative aimed at promoting environmental awareness and action through creativity, arts, and culture. It combined green art and green skills principles to inspire participants from four partner countries—Türkiye, Spain, Romania, and Sweden—to become more engaged in environmental issues and develop competencies that contribute to a more sustainable future. Participants gained insight into green art and its role in fostering environmental consciousness. They also had the opportunity to develop artistic abilities and create works addressing ecological concerns. The project promoted environmentally-friendly behaviors among participants, such as reducing waste and using sustainable materials in their creative processes. The project also emphasized virtual cooperation. Digital tools and learning methods were used to strengthen collaboration with partner organizations and to reach a broader audience beyond the physical exchange. Art Green was designed to encourage inclusion and diversity by engaging participants from various backgrounds and abilities. This approach supported the creation of a more inclusive and sustainable society. The project included eight activity days, during which participants were fully immersed in creative and educational activities aimed at strengthening their green skills. It promoted both awareness and concrete action on environmental issues, motivating participants to become active agents of change in their communities. Sustainability and responsibility were fundamental pillars of the project’s design and implementation, and all activities were planned to reflect environmentally-friendly values and encourage responsible behavior. The project was aligned with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 4 (Quality education), Goal 11 (Sustainable cities and communities), Goal 12 (Responsible consumption and production), and Goal 13 (Climate action). By promoting sustainable development and ecological awareness, the project contributed to a collective vision of a better future. Art Green offered young people an opportunity to expand their horizons, build connections with like-minded individuals and organizations, and gain valuable knowledge and skills. Participants developed their intercultural competencies, artistic expression, and environmental consciousness, while cultivating a deeper sense of citizenship and responsibility toward the planet and society. The project held significant potential for dissemination. It introduced innovative and creative ways to involve young people in community-based sustainability efforts. Non-formal learning methods and best practices discovered throughout the process were integrated into the work of our NGO, Manisa Oluşum Derneği (MODERN), allowing us to improve our future youth projects. All members of the organization supported the project enthusiastically. Importantly, all local participants from MODERN were young Turkish individuals with intellectual disabilities, which further strengthened the project’s inclusive impact and broadened its societal relevance. Art Green was a distinctive youth mobility project that fostered sustainable development and environmental awareness through art. It brought together 25 young people and 3 accompanying persons from the partner organizations for an 8-day youth exchange (plus 2 travel days) in Manisa, Türkiye. They participated in diverse activities that contributed to the project's objectives, including raising awareness on sustainability, fostering creativity as a tool for environmental expression, developing intercultural understanding, empowering active citizenship, and forming a long-term network of environmentally conscious young individuals and organizations.
