By implementing this youth exchange project, we aimed to bring attention to the often-overlooked experiences of refugee women, whose challenges have historically been overshadowed by a male-dominated narrative within refugee studies, legal frameworks, and policy practices. Our objective was to emphasize the importance of a gender-sensitive approach to refugee issues, especially in countries hosting large refugee populations. The main objectives of our project were: To ensure that the concept of "refugee" was correctly understood by young participants and the broader public, moving beyond generalizations and stereotypes. To raise awareness that anyone, regardless of background, could potentially experience forced migration and become a refugee. To support the development of public consciousness around gender issues and women’s rights, especially in the context of displacement. To foster a deeper understanding of the specific problems faced by refugee women, including gender-based violence, discrimination, and lack of access to adequate legal protection. To evaluate state policies in different countries regarding refugee protection, and to assess how these policies are implemented in practice. Raise and spread awareness about how refugee women can be politically and legally protected through effective policy implementation and legal enforcement. To contribute to the reduction of negative attitudes towards refugees, especially women, such as racism and discrimination. To promote humane and empathetic attitudes towards refugees in society. To promote the implementation of gender equality in all areas of social and political life. Specifically, to make women more aware of the unique and often traumatic burdens associated with being a female refugee, which can leave lasting psychological and emotional impacts. Through this youth exchange project, we sought to empower participants with knowledge and empathy, and to contribute meaningfully to the broader dialogue on refugee rights, gender equality, and social inclusion.
