Objectives

The main reason we brought this project to life was to instill hope in young people whose lives were turned upside down by the devastating earthquakes on February 6, 2023 — to help them reintegrate into social life and shift their perspective toward the future in a positive direction. After the earthquake, many young people had to migrate to Ankara. These young individuals faced serious challenges, both due to the trauma they experienced and the difficulty of adapting to life in a new city. During this time, we designed a project with a social entrepreneurship theme to help them feel stronger, reinforce their sense of solidarity, and support them in building a social circle. With this project, our goal was not only to offer educational or travel opportunities but also to encourage them to become active individuals. Social entrepreneurship was a strategic area in this regard because it showed young people that they could develop solutions to the societal problems they faced. At the same time, they learned to work in teams, think creatively, and take initiative. They also had the opportunity to engage with peers from various European countries, enabling cultural exchange and firsthand exposure to social entrepreneurship practices across Europe. Through this, they became more familiar with European values and felt more like a part of the European community. Another goal of the project was to introduce young people to civil society, demonstrate how they could take part in this field, and help them develop a sense of social responsibility. Thanks to the institutions they visited, the workshops they participated in, and the social entrepreneurship handbook they helped create, they gained both theoretical knowledge and practical experience. We placed great importance on the active participation of young people throughout the project — from organizing meetings to preparing presentations, they were involved in many stages of the process. This boosted their self-confidence, improved their public speaking skills, and encouraged them to take initiative in developing projects. We also did not overlook the digital aspect of the project. By organizing the preparatory meetings online, we encouraged the use of digital tools and thereby enhanced the participants’ digital competencies. Additionally, by reducing carbon emissions in line with environmental concerns, we contributed to the green priorities of the Erasmus+ program. In conclusion, this project was not just a temporary youth exchange; it was a long-term process designed to help young people become more active individuals in society. It aimed to empower them in areas such as entrepreneurship, solidarity, and creating social value. For those young people looking to turn a tragedy into an opportunity and seeking a path to stand back up, this project was a meaningful step forward.
