Preventing racism and discriminationReception and integration of refugees and migrantsBridging intercultural, intergenerational and social divide

Objectives

We aim, through our project, to prove that the prejudices against refugees in society are groundless, to show that a racist approach toward refugees hurts the goal for peace in society, to demonstrate to the participants in the project that refugee communities that inevitably migrate to a country and their host communities can peacefully coexist, and to establish that the task of overcoming the challenges brought about by forced migration can only be achieved through an inclusive, integrative, and pluralist understanding and that such challenges can be surmounted by allowing a culture of coexistence to flourish. The objectives of the project are as follows: 1. To facilitate studies on fundamental concepts such as migration, refugee, asylum-seeker, statelessness, and asylum, and to conduct workshops on basic human rights documents such as the European Convention on Human Rights, the 1951 Refugee Convention, the Convention on the Legal Status of Refugees, and the 1967 Protocol with the project participants. 2. To identify the prejudices and concerns concerning refugees in the host countries, and to carry out group work directed toward overcoming the perceptions underlying them. 3. To share samples of successful/unsuccessful practices from the countries participating in the project, and to hold informative and awareness-raising sessions on a set of pre-defined issues for the project participants. 4. To create refugee programs within the partner organizations using the learning output from the project. 5. To assemble a common booklet of policy suggestions at the end of the project, and to share it with all stakeholders. 6. To carry out work on a number of priority areas such as ensuring better reception conditions for refugees, affording their special needs, care and protection of unaccompanied children, protection of refugee women, better quality in asylum procedures, family reunification, and naturalization. 7. To offer basic drama training for the project participants so that they can stage the English-language version of a short play titled “Migrants!” at the end of the project, which deals with the challenges refugees face.
