Our “Génération Future à l'assaut des élections” project aimed to actively involve the young people of Génération Future (mostly from the Marolles, a popular and emblematic district of Brussels), in the democratic process during this 2024 election year. Our main objectives were to give young people the knowledge and skills they need to understand the political landscape, develop their critical thinking skills in the face of political information, and enable them to interact directly with political decision-makers during the European and communal elections. Through progressive training modules (political language, fake news, visual communication, etc.), we wanted to transform their relationship with politics, moving from a feeling of exclusion to genuine citizen participation. The organization of two “speed datings” with election candidates represented the concrete culmination of this process, enabling young people to make their voices heard directly by decision-makers. A cross-cutting objective was also to document this journey to inspire other young people and organizations, while strengthening our association through this enriching experience.
