Objectives

This exchange was the "return exchange," where we welcomed to Belgium many of the same young participants who took part in the 2023 exchange in Palestine. By reversing the roles of “guest” and “host,” we wanted to deepen their understanding of cultural differences, explore how to embrace these with respect, and discover how their shared values and experiences could help bridge those differences. We aimed to give the Palestinian youth an opportunity to discover parts of Belgium, to step out of the isolation they face in Palestine, and—together with their Belgian peers—to share their stories with a wider audience, using their common language: Circus. Through this, we wanted the participants to continue realizing that their voices matter, that they can speak up and be heard—helping to build their confidence and self-respect. And we wanted the Belgian public to meet this diverse group of young people—each with their own backgrounds, cultures, and habits—who together created and shared a story offering a deeply personal and alternative perspective on the situation in Palestine.
