Objectives

Youth for Understanding (YFU) is committed to empowering young people on local, national, European, and global levels. In a rapidly evolving digital era, societies face challenges like polarisation, misinformation, xenophobia, and the fear of “the other”. Against this backdrop, the training course “Building Resilient Minds” was designed to address these issues by fostering intercultural understanding, promoting inclusivity, and equipping youth to tackle pressing societal challenges effectively. We believe that global challenges can only be addressed by actively involving young people as key actors. The project aimed to empower young individuals from diverse socio-cultural backgrounds to become change-makers in their communities. By equipping them with practical skills, immersive learning experiences, and participatory methods, we aimed to cultivate responsible and active citizens who are prepared to develop and implement innovative solutions for today’s pressing global issues. The project addressed these critical needs by focusing on mental health and resilience, providing support to youth facing emotional challenges exacerbated by the ongoing world crises. It also emphasized media literacy, equipping participants to navigate social media responsibly, counter misinformation, and manage digital pressures. It advanced intercultural education by fostering cross-cultural competencies to combat xenophobia and embrace diversity in a globalized world. Additionally, the project promoted cross-generational dialogue and inclusion, bridging cultural divides to build a more inclusive and peaceful society. More concretely, for the Building Resilient Minds training course, we achieved the following specific objectives: • To increase and strengthen young peoples’ knowledge and awareness necessary to tackle current European and global issues such as mental health, resilience, and media literacy; • To foster knowledge of advanced intercultural education and global competence, based on the OECD PISA Global Competence Framework. • To strengthen youth educators’ capacity to design and deliver impactful non-formal education activities and provide hands-on opportunities to develop solutions for societal challenges, linking local actions to global impacts. • To create opportunities for young people across Europe to build lasting friendships and collaborations, contributing to a peaceful and sustainable world. • To empower participants to act as multipliers and mentors within their local communities, fostering a ripple effect of positive change. • To inspire young people to remain engaged in youth work and volunteering, strengthening democratic participation and resilience. Building Resilient Minds sought to transform participants into engaged actors of change. By addressing the interconnected issues of mental health, social media, and intercultural understanding, the project aimed to build a more inclusive, empathetic, and resilient society. Through cross-border alliances and participatory learning, EEE-YFU reaffirmed its commitment to fostering global unity and empowering youth as catalysts for a hopeful and sustainable future.
