The project centered on the local dimension of youth participation, recognizing youth as agents of change and sources of solutions to societal challenges. It operated on the belief that grassroots youth work has the strongest impact, enabling local actors to influence policy reforms at national and European levels. The Study visit focused on understanding challenges and successful practices in youth participation, particularly examining traditional spaces like local youth councils (LYCs). The activity aimed to improve these structures at the local level. Youth workers from civil society organizations and municipalities collaborated to identify challenges, visualize solutions, and adapt successful practices. The project acknowledged the importance of empowering youth in democratic processes, providing them with tools and skills to shape communities. It facilitated knowledge exchange, allowing partners to learn from each other's experiences. Recognizing the challenges faced by traditional youth participation structures, the project aimed to revitalize them using innovative methodologies like e-participation and digital transformation. The Study visit aimed to: - Explore and understand youth policies and participation models in Flanders, particularly Ghent. - Identify innovative strategies to support youth workers in expanding local youth participation. - Facilitate the exchange of good practices in youth engagement. - Provide insights into local youth councils and participatory mechanisms in Ghent. - Learn about participatory processes within Ghent, European Youth Capital 2024. - Conduct a comparative analysis of youth participation challenges in Belgium and partner countries. - Expand partners' networks and foster new synergies. - Understand the specific challenges to youth participation, focusing on structures like youth councils and participatory budgets. - Visit examples of good practices and filter elements for transfer to participants' realities. - Offer possibilities for long-term partnership building. - Learn about local youth policies in Flanders and the youth work reality in Ghent. - Develop a concrete definition of youth participation challenges and visualize solutions.
