We wanted to be able to give our respective groups of young people an international experience to support personal development through non formal education, life skills, restorative practice training and sport. We wanted to promote intercultural dialogue and break down prejudices and stereotypes. We wanted to use the project as a best practice example of active participation by young people to promote future exchanges and start a process which continued to support disadvantaged young people from different backgrounds, cultures and nationalities. We wanted to achieve this using all the expertise and tools at our disposal to create an inclusive and diverse environment to learn and to grow in confidence. We wanted young people to be able to return home after the exchange with a desire and an ability to tell their story, to communicate better and give themselves greater life chances in employment and the community. Objectives of the project were: • Support for personal development of disadvantaged young people through life skills training including restorative practice methodology. • Support for building teams and networks throughout the phases of the project including online contact between participants prior to the actual exchange. • Promote active participation of young people in considering best learning methods for themselves. • Encourage potential participants to identify their own needs and get buy in to possible learning outcomes. • Involve young people in all the lead up to the exchange looking at language, culture, and task related preparation. • Selection of an agreed theme focusing on the European Youth Goals to choose the main subject area running alongside life skills training.
