Objectives

The main goal of the SPORTY MENTAL Youth Exchange was to provide young people with a meaningful and transformative experience that deepened their understanding of mental health and physical well-being. The project was based on scientific research linking exercise to mental well-being, emphasizing how physical activity can positively impact emotional resilience, stress management, and overall mental health. Through this initiative, we aimed to empower young people to recognize the importance of maintaining both mental and physical health and to demonstrate how sports can be a powerful tool in achieving this balance. The project provided a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where participants could openly express their emotions, challenge mental health stigmas, and develop self-care strategies. We emphasized that prioritizing mental health is not a sign of weakness but a fundamental strength. Participants engaged in non-formal education activities, team sports, group challenges, and workshops that encouraged open discussions about mental health. These activities fostered self-reflection, personal growth, and resilience, equipping participants with practical tools to manage stress and anxiety. Additionally, the project promoted intercultural exchanges, reinforcing inclusion, active citizenship, and cross-cultural understanding. Specific Objectives: ✔ Raise awareness about the impact of mental health on young people’s lives and promote sports as a tool for well-being. ✔ Develop practical skills in breathing techniques and sports-based exercises that help reduce stress and anxiety. ✔ Encourage intercultural learning and social engagement, enabling participants to build meaningful connections while fostering a healthy and active lifestyle. ✔ Promote active citizenship and community engagement, motivating young people to use their skills to support mental health awareness in their communities. ✔ Ensure social inclusion and equal opportunities, particularly for participants with fewer opportunities or social difficulties. ✔ Strengthen a sense of community by fostering emotional well-being, trust, and connection among participants. ✔ Support personal and professional development, enhancing participants' mental resilience, teamwork, and cross-cultural competence. ✔ Create a safe and supportive space that promotes personal development, empowerment, and confidence-building. ✔ Encourage sustainability and creativity by incorporating an art exhibition/fashion event using recycled clothing, promoting sustainable fashion and self-expression. ✔ Develop digital outputs, such as a short video showcasing project highlights and key learning experiences as part of the dissemination process. ✔ Equip young people with coping strategies for stressful situations and promote activities that support mental well-being. By achieving these objectives, the project fostered long-term positive changes in participants' mental health awareness, physical activity habits, and social engagement, ultimately contributing to a healthier, more resilient, and more inclusive society.
