We wanted to go beyond traditional youth work and explore how artistic expression can be a powerful tool for mental well-being. Our main goal was to help participants develop practical skills they could use in their personal lives and in future roles as youth workers. We introduced them to different ways of expressing emotions, relieving stress, and building confidence through different activities. We also wanted to strengthen their intercultural competence, helping them connect with people from different backgrounds, understand diverse perspectives, and foster empathy. Except for creativity, we were also aiming for personal growth. We implemented activities to improve essential life skills like teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and adaptability. These are crucial for personal development and also for their future careers and active participation in their communities. A key focus of our project was inclusivity. We made sure that young people facing greater challenges—whether economic, social, or geographical—were actively involved and could fully benefit from the experience. At the same time, we encouraged a strong sense of European identity, highlighting the importance of active citizenship, collaboration, and shared values. The objectives were: ● Enhanced mental well-being through art: Participants actively engaged in creative activities like Beach Mandalas, Sand Sculpture Workshops, and Poetry Writing, which helped them express emotions, reduce stress, and boost their self-confidence. ● Empowered young people facing challenges: We ensured that youth from disadvantaged backgrounds (rural areas, socio-economic barriers, NEET groups, single-parent families) were fully included in all activities, providing them with opportunities for personal growth and self-expression. ● Developed practical life and youth work skills: Through teamwork, problem-solving, and communication exercises, participants gained essential skills that will benefit them in future youth work roles and everyday life. ● Fostered intercultural dialogue and inclusion: Bringing together young people from six different countries, the project created a space for cultural exchange, mutual understanding, and the development of empathy among participants. ● Promoted European citizenship and active participation: Participants deepened their sense of European identity by engaging in collaborative activities that emphasized shared values, inclusivity, and social responsibility. ● Created lasting educational resources: The project resulted in a digital handbook, local workshops, and an exhibition, all designed to inspire and guide youth workers, educators, and organizations in using artistic expression as a tool for mental well-being. To make a lasting impact, we shared the project’s outcomes widely. This included creating a digital handbook, organizing local workshops, and hosting an exhibition—all aimed at inspiring other youth workers and educators to incorporate art into their work with young people. Also, we built lasting connections between participants and partner organizations, fostering a supportive network for future initiatives. The activities we designed were engaging and meaningful. Activities like Beach Mandalas and Sand Sculpture Workshops to Seashell Jewelry Making and Nature Printing, each activity allowed participants to explore their creativity while also benefiting their mental well-being. Other activities, such as Beach Collage, Sunrise Photography, and Poetry Writing, encouraged mindfulness and self-reflection. Our group consisted of 48 young people (aged 16–22) and 12 group leaders from six different countries. Each team had at least three participants facing fewer opportunities, making sure that those who needed extra support were included. These young people came from different backgrounds, which means some of them came from rural areas, some from low-income families, and others from single-parent households or NEET situations. By engaging in these creative and interactive experiences, they had the chance to develop their artistic skills, improve their emotional well-being, and connect with peers from different cultures.
