Somatics is an umbrella term for movement therapies that centre on the mind-body connection. Youth Workers can benefit greatly from somatic practices. Thanks to them, they are able to support their youth in - body awareness (ability to recognize tensions in a body and release it through different techniques, which is a tool to fight stress, panic, become more resilient, etc.) - grounding (allowing calming the nervous system) - pendulation (to release the pent-up energy) - titration (dealing with past traumas) - sequencing (order in which sensations of tension leave the body) - resourcing (recognizing what makes you feel safe, and calm) -expressing (coming in touch with your authentic body movement) Youth workers are also able to apply somatic practices on themselves (aka becoming more resilient, more resistant to burn-out, etc.), as well as lead youngsters towards it. Since our partners recognized the needs for those techniques in their daily youthwork, we set up a project as following: GOAL: To empower youth workers with somatic techniques they can be using in their daily youthwork and as a tool in improvising . OBJECTIVES: 1) To gather 21 youth workers in an activity. 2) To teach them specific somatic techniques, namely: body-mind centering, grounding, pendulation, titration, sequencing, resourcing 3) To teach them techniques allowing youngsters to work, improvise and perform through their bodies, namely: contact improvisations, authentic movement and consensual movement 4) To spread learning on somatic to 200+ audience
