Inclusion of marginalised young peoplePreventing racism and discrimination

Objectives

The European strategy for 2030 emphasized fairness, inclusion, and the fight against discrimination, reflecting the goals of Erasmus+. To build a fairer society, it was essential to challenge harmful words that spread hate. Our project aimed to combat hate speech, unfair treatment, and exclusion. It was initiated after young people voiced their desire to learn about these issues and explore ways to address them. Through discussions with partners, we decided to organize an event introducing human libraries—a method that fosters conversations to break down stereotypes by allowing people to hear firsthand experiences of discrimination. During the youth exchange, participants planned and implemented a human library, sharing their insights and spreading awareness. The project included workshops, discussions, and creative activities to equip them with skills to fight discrimination. Cultural exchanges, role-playing, and guest speakers enhanced their learning, while regular reflections encouraged critical thinking. The project had a strong impact, helping participants develop awareness, confidence, and practical skills. They gained cultural sensitivity, improved communication, and built a sense of global citizenship. Ultimately, they became more empowered to advocate for inclusivity and challenge discrimination in their communities. Objectives of our project were: a) To improve participants' skills in human rights education and human library methodology. b) To improve participants' understanding of the process involved in running a human library, which serves to combat stereotypes, prejudices and discrimination. c) To enable participants to contribute to building a socially inclusive society by organising a "human library" event during the youth exchange. d) To develop participants' skills in teamwork, leadership, communication and presentation, thus enhancing their personal and professional development. e) To improve participants' intercultural competences by promoting interaction and collaboration with young people from different European countries as well as with the local community of the host country. f) To increase participants' knowledge of the Erasmus+ programme and its Key Action 1, promoting active participation in the programme. g) building networks and partnerships between participating organisations, promoting the exchange of effective practices between participating countries in the field of human rights education and social inclusion.
