Democracy and inclusive democratic participationPreventing racism and discrimination

Objectives

The aims of this project are content based as well as pedagogical. Contentwise this project wants to educate its participants on the topic of national socialism, especially the structure of persecution of different victim groups during that period. This happens through the example of the memorial Bergen-Belsen in lower saxony which is a former prisoner of war camp and concentration camp. More over the participants should get to know consequences of the national socialist regime across europe until today, in particular the different forms of remembrance in different european countries. In addition to that, we want to educate our participants on different kinds of discrimination today, like antisemitism, homophobia or racism, to show the participants how these kinds of discrimination develop and how they work. On a pedagogical level we want to encourage the participants to educate themselves on historical and political topics which should lead them to form their own opinion. This should support their own democratic consciousness and show them the need of a society based on solidarity and a european community. As this project involves people out of eight different countries, this community isn't just transported through theoretic knowledge. The participants can see first hand how democratic discussions and debates and a community based on solidarity can work. the experiences gained through this project should hopefully be a positive learning experience which supports the participants in forming their own personality. Moreover they should see themselves as democratic humans who are encouraged to engage in similar youth projects which want to support a society based on solidarity. Working with different types of sources and media as well as getting to see how journalistic work happens should also support their competence in media.
