Recently, many people were affected by disasters such as floods, earthquakes, forest fires, the natural consequences of the war in Europe, and drought. Long periods of drought made fires more likely, as we saw in several countries, including some in this partnership. As young people, we sometimes led or participated in global campaigns and movements (like how Greta Thunberg became a public figure) to fight against important issues. However, we did not always fully comprehend the severity of these issues that threatened our world, and we all might have woken up one day to earthquakes, fires, floods, new diseases like Covid-19, or similar threats. We needed to learn how to handle these threats and act against them. Natural disasters had a devastating impact on communities and individuals. While we could not fully prevent these disasters, we educated ourselves on how to prepare for them, what to do during them, and how to cope with their aftermath. Many lives were saved when we were well-prepared, and many people were helped when we learned how to be well-organized. We aimed to educate young people in civil society about safety procedures during and after disasters, as well as the importance of preventing human-made disasters. The project also sought to draw attention to the threats posed by both natural and human-made disasters, and to encourage active participation in civic life. By learning about the realities people faced under these disasters, we hoped to develop a greater understanding of their impact on individuals and communities. Through education and awareness, we worked to mitigate the effects of these disasters and strive towards a safer and more resilient society. Young people also became acquainted with the process of organizing actions for local communities through this project. Natural disasters, climate change, solidarity, and cooperation transcended borders, making this project important and well-suited as an international/European initiative. Our project objectives were: - To educate young people about safety procedures that should be followed during and after disasters, worked on avoiding human mistakes and accidents (e.g., fires, electrical accidents), and learned to cope with their effects. - To learn how to organize a professional and strategic campaign at the local and international levels. - To strengthen the position of young people and encouraged active participation in social life and solving problems in their local communities. - To drew the attention of the inhabitants of partner countries to the threats of both natural disasters and human mistakes/accidents, emphasized the need for education in this area, and underscored the importance of active participation in civic life. - To impact local authorities through recommendations for actions to solve social problems. - To expand the network of contacts, strengthened cooperation between partner organizations of the project, and exchanged good practices. - To increase the importance of non-governmental organizations in local communities. - To create videos and use social media actively to reach as many people as possible with the outcomes of our project and to enhance the visibility of the Erasmus+ program. - To raise awareness among our target groups about safety guidelines in the face of natural disasters and human-made threats.
