This project addressed a topic that was extremely important to all of us, as mental health is something everyone encounters at some point in life, either personally or through people around us. The main aim of the project was to use different forms of art to explore how young people can take care of themselves, better understand who they are and support their emotional well-being and mental health. When we think about art, painting or visual artworks often come to mind first. However, art also includes many other forms, such as theatre, movement, communication, self-expression, music, fashion and everyday creative practices. All these forms can serve as powerful tools for expressing emotions, processing experiences and building self-awareness. One of the key objectives of the project was focusing on using art as a tool for self-expression and self-perception of young people. Participants were introduced to various forms of artistic expression that helped them express their emotions, thoughts and personal experiences. Sometimes, art also became a way to cope with situations in which young people simply needed time and space to understand what they were feeling. The workshops and tools provided during the project supported participants in expressing themselves and better understanding their inner world. At every stage of development, and throughout life, we face questions such as: Who am I? What do I like? What influences me and shapes who I become? Although the project focused on young people aged 13-24, we collectively realized that these challenges are universal and affect people of all ages. Another important objective was increasing participants’ ability to self-reflect, including identifying current mental health issues among young people and overcoming stress and anxiety in various ways. Everyone experiences unexpected and challenging situations in life and it is crucial to know where to seek help when we feel unable to cope on our own. A key aspect of the project was helping participants understand that asking for help and searching for support is completely normal. During the project, we encountered different cultural perspectives, some where mental health is openly discussed and others where it remains a strong taboo. Through artistic activities and self-expression, participants learned techniques that could help them calm their emotions, reflect on their behavior and sometimes simply pause in a fast-paced world. The project also aimed to build awareness among young people about current mental health problems affecting youth in European countries. Participants discussed how mental health issues are perceived and addressed in their home countries, communities and families. Although each country approaches this topic differently, young people shared common experiences and challenges. They learned about places where they could seek help, find reliable information and better understand why self-care and emotional well-being are so important. Another goal was to sensitize both participants and local communities to issues such as self-expression, stress and mental health. The project encouraged young people to express themselves without shame, recognize their talents and discover what truly matters to them. The main objective of the project was to raise awareness among young people about current mental health challenges affecting youth in European countries and to strengthen their ability to reflect on their own emotions, needs and experiences. Through the use of art as a tool for self-expression and self-perception, the project aimed to help participants better understand themselves, recognize their emotions and find healthy ways to cope with stress and anxiety in everyday life. By engaging in various artistic forms such as visual arts, theatre, music, movement, communication and creative self-expression, young people were encouraged to explore their talents, express themselves without fear or shame and develop their artistic and aesthetic potential. An important goal of the project was also to sensitize participants to the challenges, pressures and expectations young people face daily, while teaching practical methods to overcome stress and emotional overload through creative activities. The project sought to enrich participants’ personal experiences and their interaction with the world, including understanding its sometimes negative influence, and to help them perceive and respect the inner world of others, thereby fostering empathy and emotional awareness. Additionally, the project aimed to normalize seeking help and support by showing that asking for help is a natural and important part of maintaining mental well-being. Finally, the project aimed to sensitize local communities, raise awareness of mental health, self-expression and stress and promote more open, inclusive dialogue around these important issues.
