Objectives

The EU Dialogue project was implemented in response to critical challenges facing Europe today: increasing polarization, social divisions, rise of extremist ideologies, migration challenges, climate change, economic disparities, erosion of democratic values in some European countries, and the need to foster European identity amid rapid globalization. Our overarching aim was to empower young people to take active roles in their communities by building their capacity and equipping them with tools to engage in difficult conversations that foster understanding, connection, and open discussions needed for a diverse Europe, positive peace, and democratic citizenship. The specific objectives of our project were: - To equip participants with practical skills in perspective taking, dialogue, empathy, and social psychology with a focus on group dynamics. - To explore individual, group and European identity in order to understand and connect to it and find common ground; - To support development of self-reflection skills in participants during interactions and dialogues with others on topics such as migration, climate change and peace in Europe; - To enhance participants' knowledge and understanding of the concept of Europe, encompassing both its political and social dimensions. - To provide opportunities for participants to practice these skills by engaging in discussions on challenging topics related to the intersection of European identity; - To explore concept of human rights and their protection and violations at the interpersonal, regional, planetary, and institutional levels; - To understand concepts related to positive peace and their connection to human rights and democracy; - To provide inputs and insights into democratic processes and encourage participants to become agents of social change by engaging in civic activities, especially in the context of EU Parliament elections 2024; - To facilitate at least 5 follow up actions and their planning by participants in order to apply their newly obtained knowledge, skills and competencies and foster dialogue processes on the grassroots level. By pursuing these objectives, the project aimed to empower young people to become active, informed, and engaged European citizens who can contribute to a harmonious, democratic, and peaceful Europe, where diversity is celebrated, and dialogue is a cornerstone of progress. This initiative directly addressed the pressing needs of contemporary Europe by fostering the skills necessary for navigating challenging conversations, promoting understanding across differences, and nurturing democratic citizenship through active participation. The objectives of the project aligned with the broader Erasmus+ priorities by focusing on building the capacity of youth workers to promote civic engagement, European values and inclusive dialogue between diverse communities facing common challenges.
