Because of the growing popularity of populist, right-wing movements, as well as more misleading information, destructive propaganda, and hate speech directed at these diverse minorities, the safety and well-being of LGBTQI+ communities in Europe are once again under threat. We are profoundly concerned about the current situation, as well as populist movements in society and politics that seek to undermine European principles of integration, solidarity, and tolerance for individuals in need of equal rights and safety Therefore we have decided to create a project and space which will in an educational and transformative way approach the matter of LGBTQI+ awareness in youthwork. Aim of the project: To equip 25 young youth workers from diverse backgrounds working with LGBTQI+ people or willing to incorporate LGBTQI+ awareness in their work with tools of inclusive language, trauma-informed youthwork, building safe spaces, conflict transformation, NVC, active listening, media literacy and action planning and to explore topics of the reality of LGBTQI+ communities in different countries in order to address European and regional tensions around stigmatization of LGBTQI+ youth and to plan at least 7 follow-up transformative actions. Objectives: The main objectives of the project are: -To explore the concepts of intersectionality, inclusivity, nonviolence, peacebuilding and human rights in the context of the situation of LGBTQI+ communities and map its possible violations all over Europe; -To empower youth workers to take an active role in addressing the mapped human rights violations and systematic violence regarding the LGBTQI+ communities and to stand up against them; -To equip youth workers with practical tools, methodologies, and strategies that enable them to integrate gender-inclusive perspectives into their peace education initiatives effectively; -To promote recognition and celebration of diversity within the context of peace education, emphasizing the importance of gender-inclusive approaches in youth work, fostering a holistic perspective on these intertwined concepts; -To understand LGBTQI+ awareness and inclusive practices in the context of youthwork, and as a tool to combat hate speech against these diverse communities; -To get familiar with the situation of LGBTQI+ communities in the partner countries and how to using LGBTQI+ awareness as a framework for peaceful transformative social actions; -To provide the youthworkers with tools to create safe and inclusive spaces for LGBTQI+ people in and with local communities; -To enhance the capacity of youth workers to develop gender-inclusive peace education materials and adapt them to the specific needs and contexts of the youth they serve and create with participants the guidelines for LGBTQI+ aware youth workers; -To create space for participants to design and plan at least 7 follow-up actions oriented on the topics of LGBTQI+ awareness in youthwork; -To raise the competencess of youth workers in trauma-informed youthwork, inclusive language, critical thinking, deconstructing media manipulations, media literacy and incorporating human rights approach in their everyday work. We also want to create spaces for young people to meet with various local stakeholders and work together to shape solidarity and peaceful societies. Stakeholders such as policymakers, schools, and various civil society organizations are viewed as potential changemakers, whom we hope to encourage by sharing project best practices and guidelines, particularly in the development of narratives and laws. There is a need to involve young people in addressing existing LGBTQI+ rights issues. With this project, we hope to establish spaces where young people may sense ownership over the design of their local communities, as well as areas where youth workers can feel empowered to inspire others.
