Objectives

In today's rapidly digitizing world, while people have a significant advantage in accessing information, they are also faced with risks such as exposure to fake news and manipulative content. Especially young people face difficulties in accessing accurate information due to the information bombardment and manipulations on digital platforms. This situation can lead to the spread of false information and information pollution at the societal level. Regarding fake news in Europe, according to a 2020 study, more than 70% of Europeans regularly encounter fake news. The biggest impact of fake news on consumers is their difficulty in finding reliable news sources and mistrusting news. Especially in countries like Spain, Italy, Portugal, Czech Republic, Netherlands, and Estonia, technology usage is increasing, and young people have easy access to the internet. As a result, young people in these countries encounter fake news more frequently. So, it was essential to increase the media literacy levels of young groups considered to be at high risk of disinformation. This project emerged as a response aiming to increase the media literacy levels of young people and enhance their skills in accessing accurate information in the digital media field. It also stands out as an important step in creating social awareness about combating fake news and ensuring a reliable flow of information. The main objective of the project was to increase media literacy among young people and contribute to the ability to discern manipulative content. To achieve this goal, activities such as presentations, workshops, and group work were organized. Through these activities, young people became knowledgeable about source evaluation and the reliability of news sources, making them more resistant to manipulation. The second important goal of our project was to raise social awareness and create a transformation in combating fake news. In this regard, communication tools such as presentations and social media campaigns were used to inform and raise awareness in society about the effects of fake news. Participants understood the importance of accessing accurate information and acted more responsibly in this regard as a result of these activities. The third goal of the project was to collaborate with decision-making mechanisms to establish a secure flow of information. A collaboration network was established among young people, media organizations, and experts. Through this network, young people's access to reliable sources of information was facilitated. In conclusion, this project aimed to empower young people to access reliable information in the digital media field and create a societal impact in combating fake news. The project aimed to increase the confidence of young people in accessing accurate information and cultivate more conscious and effective individuals in the digital world.
