The #Young Change Makers project aimed to support young people in developing ideas for implementing the European Green Deal (EGD) in their hometown or region. It sought to provide participants with all the analytical and methodological tools needed to examine an ecological challenge of their own choosing and to identify the most effective leverage points for addressing it, thereby responding to an issue they personally perceived as important. In this context, participants were introduced to opportunities for (youth) participation that would enable them to actively shape the society of tomorrow. This was closely linked to the overarching goal of challenging the perception that politics is an elitist domain reserved only for adults. European youth were encouraged to reconnect with politics and assert their role in the political process. Additionally, participants learned how to form an action group and design a public campaign that could generate the necessary attention for their cause and, consequently, influence public and political discourse. In doing so, they experienced the complexity of public participation and understood how challenging it can be to reach consensus within a group with diverse interests. The final overarching goal of the project was to build trust and strengthen the feeling that young people are taken seriously by organizing an open dialogue with political decision-makers. This dialogue allowed for direct communication between the youth and political representatives, giving participants a genuine voice in the political process.
