Objectives

Our specific objectives were 1. To equip youth coaches with AI-based tools for personalised sports training programmes. 2. To develop AI-driven personalised training plans for young adults. 3. To integrate digital literacy modules into sports training programmes. Accordingly, we wanted to a. Create an AI-supported guide for youth coaches. b. develop a structured lesson plan for youth coaches, and c. develop an e-learning course for young adults.

Background

The DigitalStride project aimed to support young adults (aged 18–30) with AI-powered tools for personalised sports programmes and to strengthen their digital skills. Given the growing importance of AI technologies such as ChatGPT, the project sought to highlight meaningful use cases. The transition to adulthood often leads to a decline in structured exercise opportunities and a lack of digital education. According to the WHO, 59% of the European population is overweight (2019), and according to Eurostat (2020), 43% of Europeans lack basic digital skills – a particularly critical issue among young adults. At the same time, 90% of jobs are expected to require digital skills in the future (EU Commission, 2017). These deficits exacerbate social inequalities, especially among disadvantaged groups, who often face multiple burdens – physical and digital. DigitalStride therefore pursued an inclusive approach that combines sport and AI to address these challenges holistically and provide young people with tools for health and digital participation.
