Objectives

The project aimed to empower and strengthen youth feminist activists in Denmark, Lithuania, and Türkiye by giving them the knowledge, skills, and tools needed to effectively advocate for gender equality. Through international training, digital storytelling, and cross-country collaboration, we wanted to build young activists’ capacities in feminist theory, leadership, advocacy, and policy influence. Another key goal was to connect youth from different cultural backgrounds, encouraging dialogue, solidarity, and shared learning. We also aimed to create long-lasting resources that support gender equality work, especially through a multilingual online hub containing tools, best practices, and educational materials. Additionally, the project sought to raise public awareness and challenge gender stereotypes by amplifying young people’s stories and hosting large-scale events, such as the youth feminist conference. Overall, the goal was to support more informed, confident, and connected activists who can drive meaningful progress in their communities.

Background

We applied for this project to address the clear need for stronger youth feminist activism and improved gender equality across Denmark, Lithuania, and Türkiye. Young activists in all three countries face similar challenges—limited access to feminist education, weak participation in decision-making, and few opportunities for international cooperation. By joining the Equal Futures project, we aimed to empower youth with practical skills in advocacy, leadership, policy work, and digital activism while creating meaningful cross-border collaboration. The project addresses key needs such as: increasing the capacities of youth feminist activists; providing accessible, multilingual resources through an online hub; strengthening networks between NGOs, youth workers, and institutions; and giving young people platforms to share their stories and influence public debate. Through training workshops, digital storytelling, a youth conference, and shared tools, the project directly supports more effective activism, broader community engagement, and lasting progress toward gender equality.
