Objectives

The main aim of the project “Initiating Change” was to support youth workerseducators, leaders of yout NGOs, particularly those with fewer opportunities, in entering the Erasmus+ programe and developing meaningful international initiatives. We wanted to create a supportive and inclusive environment where participants could learn, share experiences, and build partnerships across Europe. A special focus was placed on participants from refugee, migrant, and minority backgrounds, many of whom face language barriers or lack prior experience in international mobility projects. The project had several concrete objectives. First, we aimed to explore the realities of youth work in different EU countries and reflect on the role of Human Rights Education (HRE) and Intercultural Learning (ICL) in promoting democratic values. Second, we wanted to provide clear, accessible information about Erasmus+ and other European funding opportunities. Third, we focused on empowering newcomers - participants who had never applied for Erasmus+ before by helping them build project ideas and understand key elements like programme structure, priorities, and application processes. Another key objective was to promote inclusion by offering the entire seminar in Russian, which allowed youth workers from refugee and migrant communities to participate fully without the stress of a foreign language environment. This decision helped restore confidence for those who had lost trust in their ability to participate in international spaces due to displacement or political repression. Finally, we wanted to create a strong foundation for future collaboration. Through creative methods such as the design sprint and interactive group work, participants developed real project proposals, many of which were submitted after the seminar. The project succeeded in meeting and even exceeding its goals, especially in terms of outreach to underrepresented groups and the number of follow-up initiatives generated.
